GE, getting answers it like pulling teeth
I have sent several e-mails to GE now asking them about how much energy it takes to manufacture one cooler, saying that I was a customer concerned with the total environmental impact of the products I buy, the answers have not been forthcoming. Apparently customer service representatives are not able to gain access to that information, and any details would be considered trade secrets. After 4 e-mails I got them to give me the address of the consumer relations, I am waiting to hear if this has a phone number I can call or an e-mail address. I'll try calling the general number and playing the corporate phone game, questioning them until they at least give me a rough approximation. You think in this energy-conscious age they would be more helpful? So if any one out there has any idea of how much energy it takes to make a freezer please let me know?

Hmm. You write it like they have the number in a locked vault and just aren't sharing it with you. I'm sure they have no specific idea how much "energy" it takes. I'd guess that ascertaining such a value would probably take a team of people multiple months to investigate, given carte blanche with whatever unit manufactures the coolers.
It's all a guessing game anyways. Does it include the energy spent by whatever suppliers they source raw material from? Does it include the energy spent by the employees involved in the sourcing and manufacturing of the cooler in their non-work time? What about the designers who revise the design of the coolers. If those designers make the cooler more efficient, does that subtract from the total? What about the amortized cost of brand equity that makes consumers prefer a GE-produced product, which would favor the efficiencies of an economy of scale, vs. a collection of smaller cooler-producers, all re-inventing the wheel?
I would be very surprised if you could get anywhere on this via their customer service phone tree.
(On a side note: I think you mean "conscious", not "consciences"; and it's probably best hyphenated as "energy-conscious". Also "hear", not "here".)
Jordan! I didn't know you had a blog! Now I have something else to read...
I need your help tho! My dad was going to look at the bike and test it out for me, but now he is backing down (something about motorcycles being "unsafe"). You don't want to go with me to look at it do you?
Haha. And is it really the same color?? I didn't even notice the brand of your bike when I saw you! Ha.........
